Beyond the Thermostat: A February Night in Otter Creek

Grain and hay are fed, the water tank is filled, the barn cats have a treat, and the north wind was trying to take the skin off my hands.

Just a standard February night in Otter Creek.

When I was done with the chores, I looked north.

A faint glow of the Northern Lights was hanging over the ridge line. Not a headline making show; but just barely there. I stood still for a several minutes, and let the north wind hit me, and felt the cold.

Most people spend their nights behind double-pane glass windows and a thermostat, they never actually feel the temperature.

They don’t get to feel the wind and sky like this in February.

Warmth was only a short walk away. I could see the lights of the house. But for many minutes, I just stayed there.
