Just before the night takes over, there are a few moments when the day finally lets go to the dark.
This evening, I watched the sky change. It started with a deep orange glow along the horizon. Then the orange gave way to red.
For a little while, the red seemed to be the last bit of daylight hanging on.
Then came blue that faded to the blackness of night.
That deepening blue seemed to stretch farther and farther across the sky as the last bit of color disappeared.
And finally, no stars, just black.

The trees were just dark silhouettes. The hay field had disappeared into the shadows. The sky that had been glowing with color just a short time before was now almost completely dark.
I think that’s what caught my attention about this evening.
It wasn’t just the sunset.
It was watching the whole thing change.
Orange to red.
Red to blue.
Blue to black.
It happened slowly enough that I could actually notice it.
I’m usually finishing up the evening chores as the sun goes down. But sometimes, like today, I can just stand and watch.
Just the trees, the hay field and the sky.
And for a few minutes, I got to watch the day turn into night.
Those are the moments I want to remember.
Because they don’t last very long.
And maybe that’s what makes these days worth noticing.
Because these stories matter…
