Tired of hiking into the woods only to find the deer patterns you expected are wrong? I’m here to tell you – Don’t overlook the obvious.
Modern hunting strategy often focuses on the deep-woods, but the truth is, one of the most reliable indications of deer movement is right where human and animal worlds intersect: a road.
A Lesson Many Hunters Are Missing
In this video, I’ll show you a powerful concept that many hunters overlook. Roads act as barriers and force deer movement into predictable, tight corridors – pinch points. Deer, driven by the need to move between their safe bedding areas and feeding area, will use the same trail to cross a road day after day.
A road crossing can be your high-probability set-up spot.
Instead of fighting complex terrain deep in the woods, focus on simple, consistent road crossing points. The movement is predictable, and the set-up is often easier than you think.
The Proven Wisdom
This strategy isn’t new; it’s classic wisdom passed down through generations.
When I was just a kid, starting to bow hunt, more than 40 years ago, my Dad would set me up on a stand close to where a trail crossed the dirt road through Burma Swamp and tell me: ‘Stay here ’til I come get ya.’ That simple command put me right in the action.
Sometimes, the best hunting spot is the one everyone else drives, or walks right past. Watch the video, learn the lesson, and try hunting a road this season!
